Why Massage?
Tabitha Timmerman, Licensed Massage Therapist
A couple of years ago, I injured myself by falling down some stairs. I could not sit properly for three months. I finally decided to see my uncle, Steve Timmerman, who's fortunately a massage therapist. After Steve corrected and relaxed my body, I felt more than relaxed, I felt renewed. I found myself intrigued on how to help others, who were in pain, through massage therapy. I furthered my education and graduated from Augusta School of Massage in Evans, GA of 2008.
Massage is important because it not only enhances overall health and well-being, but it promotes the body working at its best. Since the beginning of time, it has been a basic and intuitive reaction to place a hand or rub an area of our body that is injured. As a massage therapist, I am well-skilled in giving Hot Stone massage, Prenatal, Deep-Tissue, Neuromuscular therapy, Orthopedic, Cranial Sacral, Reflexology, and other massage techniques. The following statements are a brief description of some different massage techniques and how it can benefit you:
Hot Stone massage is where special stones are heated and applied to the body to promote deep-tissue healing and relaxation. The warmth loosens stiff muscles, which makes it a great way to unwind after exercise. Those with poor circulation will, also, benefit from an increased blood flow around the body.
Prenatal massage can relieve many of the aches and pains of pregnancy. It addresses the specific areas of discomfort and facilitates overall relaxation.
Neuromuscular Therapy is a massage technique that palpates muscle (a.k.a. trigger points) and affects the level of resting tension with muscles.
Orthopedic massage improves flexibility and range of motion. Athletes use orthopedics to give them better balance and mobility among other things.
Reflexology is the art of massaging the feet, hands, or ears to stimulate nerve endings and energy pathways that correspond to every part of the body. There are 7,200 nerve endings in each foot. Perhaps this fact, more than any other, explains why we feel so much better when our feet are worked on with Reflexology.
I have received tremendous satisfaction working in a profession where I can contribute to the health and welfare of others. My work provides a unique privilege, in that I can go home feeling I've made an important difference in the lives of my clients. I think that makes being a massage therapist extremely rewarding.
